MEPCO Bill Calculation 2026: How Your Multan Electricity Bill Is Computed

Understand slab rates, surcharges, and taxes on every MEPCO duplicate bill

Your MEPCO electricity bill is calculated from tiered NEPRA slab rates, fixed monthly charges, Fuel Price Adjustment (FPA), GST, electricity duty, and other surcharges โ€” not from a single flat rate per unit. Understanding how these components combine helps you estimate your bill before it arrives and spot unusual spikes when consumption has not changed.

How MEPCO Applies NEPRA Slab Rates

MEPCO bills domestic consumers using the same progressive slab structure approved by NEPRA for all WAPDA DISCOs. Each portion of your monthly consumption is charged at the rate for that slab:

Slab Units (approx.) Base rate (Rs/kWh, unprotected)
1 1 โ€“ 100 16.48
2 101 โ€“ 200 22.95
3 201 โ€“ 300 27.14
4 301 โ€“ 400 32.03
5 401 โ€“ 500 35.24
6 501 โ€“ 600 36.66
7 601 โ€“ 700 37.80
8 Above 700 42.72

Protected consumers (typically under 200 units/month for six consecutive months) receive subsidized lifeline rates on the first 50 and 51โ€“100 unit slabs. Crossing 200 units in a single month can remove protected status and sharply increase your per-unit cost.

Use our Bill Calculator to estimate energy charges for your exact unit count.

Other Charges on a MEPCO Bill

Beyond energy cost, your duplicate bill usually shows:

  1. Fixed charges โ€” flat monthly connection fee
  2. FPA (Fuel Price Adjustment) โ€” variable monthly surcharge per unit based on fuel costs
  3. FC surcharge โ€” financing cost recovery (often around Rs. 0.43/unit)
  4. GST โ€” typically 18% on eligible components
  5. Electricity duty โ€” provincial tax (~1.5%)
  6. TV license fee โ€” Rs. 35/month on domestic connections
  7. Arrears โ€” unpaid balance from previous cycles
  8. Late payment surcharge โ€” if the previous bill was paid after the due date

FPA changes every month even when your units stay the same โ€” this is the most common reason MEPCO bills rise without higher AC usage.

Worked Example: 250 Units (Unprotected)

Assume an unprotected domestic consumer with 250 units in one month:

Energy (slab calculation):

  • First 100 units ร— 16.48 = Rs. 1,648
  • Next 100 units ร— 22.95 = Rs. 2,295
  • Next 50 units ร— 27.14 = Rs. 1,357
  • Subtotal energy โ‰ˆ Rs. 5,300

Add typical surcharges (illustrative):

  • FPA @ Rs. 3/unit ร— 250 = Rs. 750
  • FC surcharge @ Rs. 0.43/unit ร— 250 = Rs. 108
  • GST 18% on energy + FPA โ‰ˆ Rs. 1,090
  • Electricity duty 1.5% โ‰ˆ Rs. 80
  • TV fee = Rs. 35

Estimated total โ‰ˆ Rs. 7,350 (actual MEPCO bill may differ based on exact monthly FPA notification, arrears, and filer status).

How to Verify Your MEPCO Bill

  1. Check MEPCO bill online on MeraBill.pk with your 14-digit reference number.
  2. Compare units consumed with your meter reading (current โˆ’ previous).
  3. Note the FPA line โ€” compare with last month to see if the increase is tariff or usage.
  4. Use the Unit Estimator to see which appliances drive consumption.

Tips to Lower MEPCO Bills in Southern Punjab

  • Run AC at 26ยฐC and clean filters monthly โ€” critical in Multan summers.
  • Shift water pumps and irons to off-peak hours if you have a TOU meter.
  • Avoid crossing 200 units if you qualify for protected tariff.
  • Fix faulty wiring and old refrigerators that cause "meter creep."
